Why I Chose to Fly NYC to Get My Surgery

by Anonymous Patient

Why NPS

I conducted extensive research for several months, looking for a surgeon whose board certifications, licenses, education and training, and areas of expertise I was comfortable with. I wanted a surgeon in a major city— Toronto, NYC, LA, or Chicago. I figured, not only are the doctors there at the top of their game but major cities offer ample resources that are necessary for a comfortable surgical experience—after-care nursing teams, pharmacies, comfortable hotels, transportation options, etc. When I started doing my research I found that Dr.Neinstein was the ONLY surgeon I could find that specialized in liposuction. Most doctors I came across were trying to be masters of everything—offering liposuction, facelifts, otoplasties, rhinoplasties, blepharoplasties, breast augmentation etc. I firmly believe that a “Jack of all trades is a master of none.”

Why I chose surgical Intervention?

I spent most of COVID dedicating my time and energy to working out and developing a healthy lifestyle. I was working out with a personal trainer, taking Pilates classes, and walking about 10k steps per day. While I saw results, I noticed specific areas of my body were less responsive. It was apparent that my genetics were working against me. Most of the women in my family gain weight in their arms and “pouch”, and while I was building muscle, and burning fat in other areas of my body, the fat on my arms and abdomen would not budge even after two years of rigorous exercise. This, in conjunction with moving to a very hot climate, was the catalyst for seeking surgical intervention. I was tired of feeling insecure and feeling as though I had to wear long sleeves in the hot weather.

Initial consultation

I have had other (non-lipo) surgeries in the past, so I’ve experienced enough to know that sometimes a surgical inquiry- for instance a rhinoplasty—may result in the surgeon recommending additional procedures to correct or compliment it. While I respect and acknowledge that they’re the experts, there’s a higher level of vulnerability involved when you have to get undressed for a doctor you’ve just met. I was concerned that I may leave the consultation feeling worse about myself, perhaps he would point out other areas of my body that needed work that I hadn’t paid attention to.
Thankfully, I had the opposite experience. He was kind, very likeable, compassionate, and I felt as though he truly understood how raw and emotional this process is. I expressed how badly I wanted to feel comfortable in sleeveless clothing, and how frustrated I felt with my “pouch”. I told him that I had it my entire life, even as a child I felt painfully insecure, desperately trying to cover it in my ballet classes. He emphasized that despite what the media tells us, mother nature does not design us to have perfectly flat stomachs, and that hating myself for having an abdomen that houses organs is not something I should be ashamed of. I appreciated that he gave me realistic expectations saying that he “would rather over-deliver than over-promise.”

Overall Experience

It’s over a year now, since my surgical anniversary with Dr.N. Despite how busy he is, he still messages me to check in and see how I’m doing & progressing. The other surgeons I’ve had in the past are never heard from after the 1 month follow-up. Truly, honestly, there is no one like Dr.Neinstein & his team. The care is phenomenal, the attention to detail is outstanding, and the results are jaw dropping. If I could relive the entire experience over again from start-to-finish I would in a heartbeat.
