With 2023 behind us, many of us are looking onwards to the new year. I would love to reflect on how our skin has gotten better in the last 365 days. 2023 was the year of dissolving fillers and starting fresh. Many patients were really listening to the buzz word: Sculptra or bio stimulators. Many patients were looking for a way to stimulate collagen not only with their supplements but also with an injectable solution. The goal: to smooth skin.
Dissolving fillers was absolutely a hot topic; many injectors including myself realized that much of this industry is celebrity driven. What Emrata and the Kardashians are doing is typically what I was being asked for. We found that dissolving over filled faces helped keep a youthful natural appearance, something that I predict will also be very popular in 2024. Along with “de-puffing” patients, I have found that the stigma tagainst neurotoxins is truly a thing of the past. Patients were requesting to “ look their best” working on smoothing from their forehead all the way down to their neck muscles. Clients even wanted the wrinkles in between their breasts smoothed – especially important for those side sleepers. Understanding that neurotoxins work on the muscles helped clients understand that the forehead is not the only area to be treated. As we continue to shift our approach in 2024, I suspect this trend, increased use of upper body neurotoxins, will continue in popularity.
Many people are already asking about the newly launched radiofrequency microneedling device the SecretRF by Cutera, the newest RF technology on the market. This device is designed to create tighter, smoother skin as a non-surgical option. We have been waiting for a device with this potential and are very excited to launch it at Neinstein Plastic Surgery. Also backed by popular demand, the Lutronic ultra laser remains a staple. This is true as a no downtime laser facial that helps to rejuvenate the top layers of skin remains desired by clients. Paired with the SecretRF, this will be the duo everyone is seeking to attain their best skin yet.
2023 also brought more clients seeking body toxins. Patients are adding in trap tox to reduce tension and pain in their neck and elongate their neck. Calf tox has also become extraordinarily popular with patients realizing they didn’t have to hide their muscular calves any longer but instead they can slim them slightly to fit into their favorite jeans or boots.
Looking ahead, I hope that 2024 will be the year of education. So many of my patients sat in my chair wanting to know “the why”. Why should they try this? What exactly is the science behind it? How can I help them look and feel their best? They valued the scientific reasoning behind the products and were happy to know that putting these products in their faces or bodies will prolong the youthful appearance they are seeking and postpone the aging process. Happy to announce the trend continues. When patients understand how something helps them achieve their goals, they are more likely to have that ah ha moments. Cheers to 2024 and smoother brighter skin!
