Dr. Neinstein’s approach to reading and his top 5 book recommendations
Harry Truman once said, “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.” Reading is one of my greatest joys day to day. It not just provides a mastery of knowledge in any field, its real special gift for me personally is the self-exploration. Learning more about selves is so important, in fact Aristotle so eloquently summed it up in his teaching ,“knowing thyself is the beginning of wisdom”.
Let’s get in to a few books that I really believe can help people understand the world but most importantly help people understand themselves.
- Ryan Holiday, Ego is the Enemy: This book lets us understand how history is the same thing over and over and so is the human experience. Whatever you are going through someone has been there before and a lot of insight in to how to best handle your current predicament can be found in these pages.
- Tim Grover, Relentless: If you ever wonder if you are alone in your relentless pursuits of goals this book is for you. Tim shares his experience coaching the world’s top CEO’s and athletes and the common traits that separate the over achievers from the pretenders.
- Dr. Nate Zinsser, The Confident Mind: A Battle-Tested Guide to Unshakable Performance: If your day to day profession relies on physical performance of a difficult task this book is essential. Dr. Zinsser helps shape your confident mindset and gives real tactical strategies for how to prepare, perform, and recalibrate when things out of your control impact outcomes.
- Douglas Brinkley, American Moonshot: John F Kennedy and The Great Space Race: This book travels you back in time to a different America. JFK reminded everyone that because things are unknown it did not make them unknowable, his pursuit of things outside of collective consciousness galvanized the Country to do things because they are hard and set an unprecedented growth in American innovation.
- Robert Greene, The Daily Laws: Robert Greene’s 366 meditations on power, seduction, mastery, and strategy will awaken your mind to the world around you.
